BSF picks up 23 Bangladeshis from Feni border

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up 23 Bangladeshi nationals from Chhagalnaiya border in Feni early Monday.

They are Saimum Hossain, 19, Raisul Islam, 19, Samin, 40, Harun, 23, Liton, 30, Main Uddin, 20, residents of East Chhagalnaiya village, Mohsin, 25, Kazi Ripon, 40, Tajul Islam Sakil, 22, Hanif, 35, Abul Hasan, 30, Imran, 22, Rubel, 28, Zafar Imam Mazumder, 40, Md Obaidul Haque, 44, Jamal Uddin, 40, Arif Hossain, 24, Karim, 20, of Radhanagar area, Khorshed, 38, Azad Hossain, 25, Mahim, 25, Harun, 32, and Imam Hossain, 22, of Matua area in Chhagalnaiya upazila.

Locals said a news spread on Monday night that BSF picked up a Bangladeshi national from East Chhagalnaiya area. When some locals went there to look for the man, the BSF members chased them and detained 23 of them.

Bangladesh Border Guard official Sheikh Mohammad Badruddoza said a flag meeting between BSF and BGB was held on Tuesday and in the meeting, the Indian border security force claimed it detained the Bangladeshi citizens in connection with smuggling.

He said they informed higher authorities about this and will take legal action in this regard.
