10 get death penalty in Subarnachar gang rape case

A Noakhali court has sentenced ten people to death and six others to life-term imprisonment in a case filed over the gang rape of a 40-year-old woman in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali in 2018. 

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Fatema Ferdous passed the order on Monday. 

The death-row convicts are former UP member Md Ruhul Amin, 40, Md Hasan Ali Bulu, 44, Md Sohel, 35, Swapon, 35, Ibrahim Khalil Bechu, 25, Abul Hossain Abu, 40, Md Salahuddin, 35, Md Jasim Uddin, 32, Md Murad, 28 and Md Jamal Prakash Henju Majhi, 28.

The convicts who were given life term imprisonment are Md Hanif, 30, Md Chowdhury, 25, Md Badsha Alam Basu Prakash Kurailya Basu, 40, Mosharof, 35, Md Sohel, 28 and Md Mintu Prakash Helal, 55.

According to the case, on December 30, 2018, a 40-year-old woman was beaten and gang-raped in her house while her husband and children were tied up right beside her.

On December 31, the day after the incident, victim's husband filed a case with Char Jabbar Police Station.

After investigation of the case, the district detective police inspector Md Zakir Hossain (DB) filed a charge-sheet against 16 people on March 25, 2019.
