Police constable beaten to death in N’ganj

A Police constable was beaten to death by locals after he chased a suspected drug addict, who jumped into a water body and died at Raidia area under Sonargaon municipality in Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.

The police constable was identified as Arifur Rahman of Sonargaon police station while the suspected drug addict was named as Abdul Matin of Raidia area of Sonargaon municipality.

Sonargaon police station officer-in-charge Monjur Kader told New Age that, on tip off, a team of police went to Raidia area at around 4:30pm and chased a group of suspected drug addicts to nab them.

All the addicts managed to flee but Matin jumped into a nearby water body.

As he did not get up immediately, the police constable called locals and joined them in search operation, he said.

Meanwhile, the relatives of Matin began to beat Arifur, threw him into water and then began to throw bricks on him and drowned him to death in water body, he said.

He said that they recovered both the bodies.
