Abdul Hyee’s parliament membership stayed

The High Court (HC) has stayed the parliament membership of Jhenaidah-1 Awami League lawmaker Md Abdul Hye for two months.

An HC bench of Justice Asaduzzaman on Thursday passed the order after holding a hearing on the petition filed bringing allegations of polls-related irregularities.

Earlier, Nazrul Islam Dulal, an independent candidate of the constituency, filed the election petition with the HC bringing allegations of irregularities and rigging in the counting votes. The petition also sought a stay order on the gazette of Abdul Hyee’s parliament membership issued by the Election Commission.

Notably, Abdul Hyee won the 7 January polls with 94,379 votes, while his nearest rival Nazrul Islam Dulal got 80,547 votes.
