Ayaan’s death: DGHS submits probe report to HC

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has submitted a probe report to the High Court (HC) on the death of five-year-old Ayaan following a circumcision procedure at United Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Badda.

Dr Porimol Kumar Paul, Deputy Director (Law) of the DGHS, submitted a 15-page probe report on Sunday.

A hearing on the probe report might be held in the HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Atabullah today.

Earlier on Thursday, the HC set today for submission of probe report on the death of Ayaan as the DGHS failed to submit it.

On 31 December, Ayaan was circumcised under full anesthesia at United Medical College Hospital in Dhaka’s Badda, allegedly without parental consent. He was transferred to the hospital’s Gulshan branch from there as he did not regain consciousness a few hours post-operation.

After seven days of keeping him on life support in the pediatric intensive care unit, the doctors declared Ayaan dead early on January 4.

Later, Ayaan’s family filed a written complaint with Badda Police Station over the matter.
