Two firms fined Tk 3.50cr for egg price manipulation

The Bangladesh Competition Commission (BCC) has fined two firms Tk 3.50 crore after allegations of unusually hiking prices of eggs in mutual collusion were proved.

Of these, Diamond Egg Ltd was fined Tk 2.50 crore and C. P. Bangladesh Limited Tk 1 crore, according to the verdict in a case regarding this published on Wednesday.

Earlier on Monday, the commission passed the final order in this respect.

However, the case was filed against 10 poultry firms and poultry related organizations in 2022 on a charge of manipulating egg prices in the market.

"It has been proved that the two companies raised egg prices through mutual collusion and for that, punitive action was taken against the two companies under Section of Competition Act," BCC member Hafizur Rahman told Jago News.

Earlier in October last year, the Bangladesh Competition Commission penalized two companies - Kazi Farms, and Saguna Foods - around Tk 8.50 crore in a case over the abnormal increase in broiler chicken prices.
