A day after Shoaib Malik shocked the world by sharing wedding pictures with Pakistani actress Sana Javed, Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza has reacted and confirmed the divorce. Sania revealed that she and Shoaib separated a few months ago and sent good wishes to her former husband, reports Times Now.
Sania revealed her desire to keep her personal life away from the public eye, and the statement that has been issued by Sania's team and her family called for her fans and well-wishers to respect her privacy and called it a sensitive time in her life.
"Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!
"At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well- wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy," the statement said.
Indian tennis legend Sania and ex-Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib married each other in 2010. The couple has a son together named Ihaan Mirza Malik, who was born in October 2018.
On a professional note, Sania retired from the sport in February 2023 and is currently part of the broadcasting team for the 2024 Australian Open. She also served as a mentor for the Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) women's team in the 2023 Women's Premier League (WPL).
Meanwhile, Shoaib remains a rare cricketer to have started his career before the start of the millennium and still be active. He is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) but has not played for Pakistan since 2021. He has also been involved in media work in recent times, notably during the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 World Cup.
