The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested Bappaditya Basu, the former president of Biplobi Chhatra Maitri, in three cases of money embezzlement and cheating.
The elite force apprehended him from New Market area in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
After arrest, he was handed over to Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station and was sent to jail on Wednesday following a court order in the district.
RAB said Bappaditya Basu is a convicted fugitive in three cases filed in Noakhali, Cumilla and Barishal for money swindling and forgery.
Abdur Razzaque, officer in-charge (OC) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station, confirmed the matter.
