The Election Commission (EC) has canceled the candidacy of Mostafizur Rahman, the Awami League nominated candidate for the Chattogram-16 seat, for breach of the electoral code of conduct.
His candidacy was scrapped unanimously around 3:45 pm, EC Secretary Md Zahangir Alam told the reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
Asked what kind of rules he broke, EC Zahangir said a case was filed against him accusing him of violating the electoral code of conduct. He threatned law enforcers.
The voting in the 12th general elections was held across the country today, with a total of 1,895 candidates contesting in the polls.
