National polls: Armed forces to be deployed on Wednesday

Members of the armed forces will be deployed across the country on Wednesday to help the civil administration in holding a free and fair national polls.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the information in a press release issued on Tuesday.

They will be in the field till January 10 to maintain the law and security before and after the general election, the press release said.

The armed forces members will stay at nodal points and other convenient points in every district/upazila/metropolitan areas, and will conduct patrolling and other operational activities in coordination with returning officers, if necessary, it said.

It also said a joint coordination cell has been set up at the Armed Forces Division consisting representatives of different ministries/departments and law enforcement agencies.

The national polls is scheduled to be held on January 7.
