Filmmaker Raj Chakrabarty and actor Abir Chatterjee are set to reunite after more than a decade for their upcoming film Babli, which will also feature Subhashree Ganguly, announced the actor-director duo on Monday.
Bojhena Shey Bojhena, the last collaboration between Raj and Abir, went on to become a blockbuster in 2012.
Sharing the announcement teaser on his X handle, Abir wrote, “On the first day of the new year, some relationships, old and new. And a story that will never grow old. Buddhadeb Guha’s Babli.”
“The biggest surprise of 2024. An adaptation of Buddhadeb Guha’s novel Babli,” Raj, too, wrote on X alongside the announcement teaser.
Babli is based on a novel of the same name by the late Buddhadeb Guha. It will also witness the first-time collaboration between Abir and Subhashree, with the latter returning to the silver screen after the birth of her second child, Yaalini.
Babli is a romantic novel that revolves around two individuals - Babli and Abhi. The former is freethinking woman, while the latter is an introverted nerdy guy who has just returned to India after obtaining a degree in London. How their paths cross and they fall in love with each other forms the rest of the plot.
Raj, known for his keen storytelling and directorial skills, has been riding high on the success of his maiden web series Abar Proloy for ZEE5.
While Abir's Durga Puja release in 2023, Raktabeej, proved to be a smashing hit, Subhashree made her OTT debut in 2023 with Indubala Bhaater Hotel on Hoichoi, which also garnered widespread acclaim.
Abir is currently awaiting the release of his upcoming film Shri Swapankumarer Badami Hyenar Kobole. Helmed by Debaloy Bhattacharya, it is based on the fictional detective Dipak Chatterjee, created by pulp-fiction writer Shri Swapankumar. The film will hit theatres on January 12.
