Customs officials have detained a woman along with 69 gold bars weighing around 8 kilograms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka.
The detainee is Rekha Parvin.
Assistant Director Farhana Begum of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
On a tip-off, customs officials searched Rekha coming from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through a flight of Emirates Airlines on Tuesday night and seized 69 gold bars and some gold ornaments from her worth around Tk 6.57 crore, she said.
She also said detained Rekha was handed over to Dhaka Airport Police Station and a criminal case was lodged against her.
