A court in Dhaka has sentenced 47 BNP leaders and activists, including former Jubo Dal president Saiful Alam Nirob and Dhaka South City BNP member secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu, to different jail terms in three separate cases filed in the capital Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain delivered the verdicts on Thursday.
Of the 47 BNP men, 14, including Nirob, were awarded a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence in a sabotage case of Tejgaon Police Station filed in 2013.
Thirteen, including Majnu, were sentenced to two and a half years in jail in a sabotage case of Shahjahanpur Police Station filed in 2018.
Twenty were given a one-and-nine-months jail sentence in another case filed with Banani Police Station in 2018 for subversive acts.
