A Dhaka court has sentenced ten BNP leaders and activists including former Jubo Dal president Saiful Alam Nirob in a sabotage case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order on Monday.
The other accused in the case are former councilor of Dhaka City Corporation Anwaruzzaman, Lutfor Rahman, Shahin alias Gandu Shahin, Tariqul Islam alias Jhantu, Aminul Islam Jakir, Golam Kibria Shimul, Billal Hossain, Shahidul Islam and Jakir Hossain.
Of them, Nirob and Anwaruzzaman are in jail and the rest are absconding.
The court also issued an arrest warrant against the fugitive convicts.
According to the case statement, a taxi driver named Babul was going to Karwan Bazar with three passengers around 7:30pm on March 26, 2013. When the taxi reached WASA Bhaban around 8pm, some people intercepted it and set it on fire. Later, the taxi driver filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station in the capital.
On August 14, 2014, Mahbubur Rahman, Sub Inspector of Tejgaon Police Station, submitted charge sheet to the court.
