The expatriate Bangladeshis sent remittances of around $193 crore (equivalent to about Tk 21,181 crore) in November, the fifth month of the current fiscal year 2023-24.
The amount is about $5 crore less than that of October when the country saw $197.75 crore in remittance, Bangladesh Bank said in its updated report on Sunday.
BSS adds: With the latest addition, the year-on-year growth in receiving remittances stood at 0.24 percent for the first five months, July to November, of the ongoing fiscal year (FY24) as the country received $8,814.55 million in total during the period. Last year, it was $8,793.56 million.
Talking to BSS, a senior official of the central bank mentioned that the flow of remittances into the country shows an upward trend as the government has taken measures to streamline the legal channel for encouraging non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money to the country.
