Engineer killed as UNO’s car falls into ditch in Panchagarh

An engineer was killed and three others injured when the car of Tentulia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) fell into ditch in Panchagarh on Saturday midnight. 

The accident took place at Chekormari area under Satmera union in the Sadar upazila of the district. 

The deceased Abu Sayeed was the engineer of Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon. 

The injured are Tentulia UNO Fajle Rabbi, Upazila Social Service Officer Al Amin and Assistant Programmer Nabiul Karim Saker. 

They were admitted to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital and of them Al Amin was later transferred to Rangpur Medical Collge Hospital in a critical condition.

Police and locals said the government officials were going to Tentulia from Panchagarh. When their car reached Chawai bridge on Panchagarh-Banglabandha highway, it lost control and fell into the roadside ditch, leaving one dead on the spot and three others injured. Fire service members recovered the victims in cooperation with local people and admitted them to Panchagarh Adhunik Sadar Hospital. Later, Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Md Jahurul Islam and Police Superintendent SM Sirajul Huda visited them.  

Panchagarh Fire Service Station Officer Tushar Kanti Roy said being informed at 1:15 on Sunday, they rushed to the spot and recovered one body and rescued three others.

Jakir Hossain, Officer-in-charge of Tentulia Highway Police Station, said the accident may have occurred due to excessive speed of the car.
