Raushan Ershad decides not to participate in polls

Leader of the Opposition and Jatiya Party’s Chief Patron Raushan Ershad has said she will not participate in the upcoming national elections slated for January 7.

Raushan on Wednesday night made the announcement following a meeting with her supporters at her residence.

“I took part in the 2014 and 2018 elections in the interest of the country and democracy. I have welcomed the announcement of the election schedule this time as well. I was prepared to participate in the election,” Raushan said.

She alleged that the party Chairman GM Quader and General Secretary Mojibul Haque Chunnu did not cooperate with her in participating in the election. Also, the party’s tested leaders were not given nominations.

“In such a situation, it is not possible for me to participate in the election due to the underestimation of the party leaders,” she said.

Earlier on Monday, Jatiya Party announced its candidates for 289 constituencies for the upcoming polls. Raushan Ershad and her son Saad Ershad were not on the nomination list.
