The country’s total population has stood at 16,98,28,911, according the national report of the Population and Housing Census, 2022.
Out of the total population, 8,41,34,003 are male, 8,56,86,784 are female and the rest 8,124 are hijras.
Population and Housing Census Project Director Md Dilder Hossain unveiled the report at the auditorium of Statistics Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Tuesday.
Out of the total population, 68.34 percent people live in the rural areas while 31.66 percent people live in the urban areas, the report said.
Bangladeshi Bureau of Statistics Director General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman presided over the function while Planning Minister MA Mannan was present as a chief guest.
Statistics and Information Management Division Secretary Dr Shahnaz Arefin and General Economics Division member Dr Md Kawser Ahmed were, among others, present.
