A court in Dhaka has sentenced 12 people, including Jubo Dal organizing secretary Ishaq Sarker, to seven years in jail in a case under the Explosive Substances Act.
Dhaka South City unit Jatiytabadi Chhatra Dal joint convener Shakhawat Hossain Anwar, Haider Ali Babla, Imran, Sentu, and Nasum are among those who were jailed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-10 Judge Md Mamunur Rahman Siddiqui delivered the verdict on Thursday.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 and in default, they will have to serve six months more in prison.
However, the court acquitted eight accused from charges as it found them not guilty.
The court's assistant public prosecutor (APP) Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter.
The case statement said the accused threw cocktails in Babubazar Bridge area on March 8, 2015, to make hartal successful in the direction of BNP's top leaders, leaving a rickshaw puller named Kamal Hossain injured.
Later, sub-inspector Moniruzzaman filed a case in this connection.
