Miscreants set fire on two covered vans on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Dakkhin Salna area in Gazipur around 6am on Thursday on the second day of 48-hour countrywide blockade called by BNP and its allies.
According to police and fire service, 10 to 12 miscreants in a private car and a motorbike intercepted the two covered vans at Dakkhin Salna area and set those on fire by pouring petrol on them.
On information, police and two firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in one hour.
Gazipur fire service station officer Abdus Samad said the blockade supporters set two covered vans on fire and fled the scene. Two firefighting units brought the fire under control. No one injured in the incident.
Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Gazipur Sadar Police Station, said an investigation is underway to determine who set fire to the two covered vans.
