11 including Jubo Dal leader Zahangir get 7 yrs in jail

A court in Dhaka has sentenced 11 BNP men, including Dhaka North City Jubo Dal's former general secretary SM Zahangir Hossain, to seven years in jail in a sabotage case filed in 2013.

Rest ten are Nasim Ahmed Opu, Ashraful Islam, Monir Hossain, Monir Hossain, SI Tutul, Mahmudur Rahman, Awal, Shahadat Hossain, Engineer Fakhrul Islam and Dr Shahin alias Ihtishamul Haque.

Judge Md Mamunur Rahman Siddiqui of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-10 delivered the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 and in default, they will have to serve six months more in jail.

However, 38 others were acquitted from charges as they were found not guilty.

The case statement said 300/400 leaders and activists of BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami threw brickbats and cocktails toward police in Azampur rail gate Kachabazar area in capital Dhaka on November 26, 2013, as part of the 48-hour blockade enforced by the 18-party alliance.

They also torched a motorcycle there to create panic among people, according to the statement.
