Verdict against Mirza Abbas in graft case on Nov 30

A court in Dhaka on Wednesday set November 30 for pronouncing judgment in a case filed against BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information.

Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 passed the order as both the prosecution and defence concluded placing their arguments in the case today.

The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas's bail in the case and issued an arrest warrant against him.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for allegedly amassing wealth of Tk 7.54 crore illegally and concealing information about wealth of Tk 57.26 lakh.

ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case filed a charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas of amassing wealth of Tk 4.23 crore illegally.

The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
