BNP, allies’ 48-hour hartal begins

The 48-hour nationwide hartal called by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies began at 6am on Sunday protesting the declaration of the next general elections’ schedule.

The hartal will continue till 6am on Tuesday.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the fresh programme at a virtual press briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, the BNP and its allies observed blockade programme in fifth phase to press home their one-point demand to hold the next election under a neutral government.

On Wednesday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced the schedule for the 12th parliamentary elections.

On the day, BNP turned down the schedule and demanded the polls under a caretaker government.
