Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will address the nation on Wednesday evening to announce the schedule for the 12th parliamentary election.
He will announce the election schedule at 7pm during his address to nation, Election Commission (EC) Secretary and Spokesperson Md Jahangir Alam told journalists at his office around 10:15am on Wednesday.
Earlier at 5pm, the election commission will hold a meeting over the election schedule. After the meeting, the CEC will announce the polls schedule. The election may be held in the first week of January in 2024, said the EC source.
However, security has been beeped up in and around the Nirbachan Bhaban and its adjoining areas. Personal hearing for correction of national identity card at the commission building has been shut from Tuesday.
According to the statistics of the Election Commission, the number of voters in the country now is 11,96,91,633. Of the total voters, 6,07,71,579 are male and 5,89,19,202 are female.
