RMG workers block road in Mirpur demanding salary hike

Readymade garment (RMG) workers on Sunday morning blocked the main road in Mirpur-13 of the capital demanding a minimum basic salary of Tk 23,000.

Police members were deployed in the area to control untoward situation. 

Source said several hundreds of workers from different garment factories including Vision, MBM, Loadstar and Saroj blocked the road at 8am. The vehicular movement on the road between Mirpur-10 and Mirpur 14 were disrupted due to their agitation programme. Later, the workers left the road around 10:15am. 

Mohammad Mohsin, Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station, said several hundreds of workers blocked the road in Mirpur-13 around 8:15. The police explained and removed them from the road. The vehicular movement is now normal on the road

Earlier on November 7, the government set the minimum wage for RMG workers at Tk 12,500. The RMG workers rejected the new minimum wage.
