Six get life in Lakshmipur schoolboy murder

A court in Lakshmipur on Thursday sentenced six people to life-term imprisonment in a schoolboy murder case.

The lifers are Ilyas, Masudur Rahman Kala Masud, Nur Mohammad Liton, Anwar Hossain, Aman, and Shahriar Rashed.

District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Md Rahibul Islam delivered the verdict.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each and in default, they will have to serve another year in prison.

However, an accused named Tajul Islam Taju Bhuiyan was acquitted from the charges as he was found not guilty. 

Victim Shimul was a student of Class VIII at Praptapgonj High School in Chandraganj union under Sadar upazila.

He is the nephew (sister's son) of plaintiff Quazi Mamunur Rashid Bablu. After the death of his parents, he lived at the home of his maternal grandfather in Deopara village under the union.

The case statement said Bablu was admitted to a hospital in Lakshmipur on April 21, 2014, with sickness, and at that time, his mother, sister-in-law, and nephew Shimul were at home.

A group of armed masked men stormed the home on that night. In fear, Bablu's mother and sister-in-law fled but Shimul did not escape.

The men, later, picked up Shimul in Deopara Government Primary School area and shot him dead when he obstructed them from vandalizing furniture.

On May 5 of the year, Bablu filed a case with Sadar Police Station in this connection.
