Fresh 48-hour blockade across country begins

Another 48-hour blockade across the country called by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and like-minded parties began early Wednesday.

BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the fresh programme on Monday to press home their one-point demand and protest the police action on its October 28 rally.

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and other political parties and alliances followed BNP to announce that they would also hold the blockade programme simultaneously.

Earlier on October 29, BNP observed a dawn-to-dusk hartal across the country protesting the attack on its October 28 rally.

Later, BNP also observed blockade across the country for five days in two phases. The second phase blockade ended on Monday.
