The Appellate division of Supreme Court (SC) has upheld death penalty for one and acquitted four others of the five convicts in the case filed over rape and killing of Shazneen Tasnim Rahman.Shaznin is the daughter of Transcom Group Chairman Latifur Rahman. The death-row convict is Shahidul Islam Shahid, domestic help of Latifur.A five-member bench of SC headed by the Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha handed down the verdict on Tuesday morning.The other members of the bench are Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Mohammad Iman Ali, Justice Hasan Foyez Seddiki and Justice Mirza Hossain Haider.Shazneen was brutally murdered at her house in the capital’s Gulshan area on April 23, 1998.The following day, her father Latifur Rahman filed a murder case with Gulshan Police Station under section 302 of Penal Code.
