Ex-Home Minister Altaf Hossain sent to jail

A Court in Dhaka has sent former Home Minister and BNP Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury to jail in a case over the attack on Chief Justice's residence.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sheikh Sadi passed the order on Sunday after police had produced him before the court, seeking to confine him in prison until the investigation ends.

Earlier, the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Altaf Hossain from Tongi area in Gazipur early today in the lawsuit, said the elite force's legal and media wing director Commander Khandaker Al Moin.

However, an attack was carried out on the residence of Chief Justice at Kakrail in the capital allegedly before BNP's October 28 grand rally at Nayapaltan.

Later, a case was filed against 59 BNP leaders and activists, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, with Ramna Police Station over the attack.
