A court in Dhaka has put Lieutenant General (retd) Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy on an eight-day remand in a case filed for alleged breach of trust by pretending to be someone else.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin passed the order on Wednesday after police had produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Earlier on Sunday (October 29), the case was lodged with Paltan Police Station, Dhaka.
Mia Zahidul Islam Arefi, so-called advisor to US President Joe Biden, and BNP leader Ishraque Hossain were accused in the lawsuit.
However, Mia Arefi was arrested on Monday (October 30) in the case and sent to jail while Hasan Sarwardy was apprehended on Tuesday.
The case statement said one Mia Zahidul Islam Arefi introduced himself as an advisor to US President Joe Biden to the media in the presence of Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy and BNP leader Ishraque Hossain at BNP's Nayapaltan central office on October 28 after the party suspended its grand rally there on the day.
Mian Arefi had told the media he made a recommendation to his government to impose a ban on Bangladesh Police, Home Ministry, and Law and Justice Division.
The plaintiff alleged Hasan Sarwardy and Ishraque helped him give the false statement and they instigated BNP leaders and activists to deterioration of the law and order situation by supporting his statement.
