2 killed in BNP-police clash in Kishoreganj

Two people were killed and several others injured in a clash between Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and police at Chhaysuti Union in Kuliarchar upazila of Kishoreganj on Tuesday morning. 

The deceased were identified as Billal Hossain, 30, and Refayet Ullah, 20. 

They were the activists of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, claimed BNP.

Local source said the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate organizations took position on a regional road at Chhaysuti Union around 9am as part of their three-day blockade program. Despite police obstruction, they brought a procession on the road and locked into with clash with the members of the law enforcers.

BNP’s central Organizing Secretary Syed Imran Saleh Prince said the two activists of their associate organizations were killed in the gunfire of police. 

Kishoreganj’s Jahirul Islam Medical College Hospital Ward Master Rokon Uddin said one dead body was taken to the hospital. His name is Refayet Ullah, 20, inhabitant of Chhaysuti village under Chhaysuti union in Kuliarchar upazila.

Md Golam Mostofa, Officer-in-charge of Kuliarchar Police Station, said the clash took place between BNP and police. In self-defense, police opened fire when they came to attack.

The OC said he heard the news that two people were killed in the clash.

However, Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the deaths of two people in the clash.
