A massive fire broke out in a 14-storey building at Mohakhali in Dhaka on Thursday evening, leaving a woman dead.
The deceased was identified as Hasna Hena, 27. She hailed from Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha and worked in the sales department at Orbit, an internet service company, at the establishment.
She died after falling from the ninth floor of the building when she was trying to get down through a wire in fear of the fire, said the company's deputy manager Nazmul Huda.
Earlier around 4:59 pm, the 13th floor of Khawaja Tower caught a massive fire.
Eleven units of Fire Service and Civil Defence were working to douse the blaze. Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel also joined them in the efforts.
However, eight people were rescued and around 20 to 25 others were stuck inside the building.
