A man has been awarded the death penalty and his parents and brother have been sentenced to seven years in jail for the murder of his wife in Dohar upazila of Dhaka around five years ago.
The condemned convict is Ruhul Amin and those who were jailed are his father Monwar Hossain, mother Asma Begum and brother Maruf Khan.
The court of Dhaka First Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Shafiqul Islam delivered the verdict on Wednesday.
The court also fined them Tk 5,000 each and in default, they will have to serve three months more in prison.
The court sources said victim Shikha Akter was found dead with a cloth tied around her neck in a pond near her in-law's home in Dohar upazila on August 6, 2018.
Later, her family filed a case with Dohar Police Station making her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law accused.
