Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s central Publicity Secretary Matiur Rahman Akanda has been arrested.
Police arrested him from his residence in the capital’s Uttara around 11am on Wednesday.
Muhammad Masud Alam, Officer-in-charge of Uttara Paschim Police Station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
He said the Jamaat leader has been arrested in an old case. He will be produced before the court but they will not seek remand for him as he is sick.
Jamaat’s Dhaka city north unit Publicity and Media Secretary Ataur Rahman said Akanda is critically ill. He has undergone an open heart surgery. Police arrested him when he was preparing to go to the hospital.
