The long-awaited Farmgate footbridge was opened to the public on Sunday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the new footbridge at 12:30pm.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman were, among others, present during this time.
The Farmgate footbridge, the country’s first, had been non-existent for almost one and a half years. It was demolished for the construction of the capital’s elevated expressway that partially opened on 2 September.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said at the inaugural ceremony that the construction work of the Farmgate footbridge started in May last year. Such a wide footbridge was built for the first time in Dhaka at a cost of about Tk20 crore.
