A court in Lakshmipur has sentenced eight people to life-term imprisonment for the murder of a local Awami League leader in the district.
The lifers are Md Kawser, Saiful Islam, Md Siraj, Alauddin Alo, Md Awal, Md Razu, Md Zaker and Md Tuhin.
District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Md Rahibul Islam delivered the verdict on Thursday.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, and in default, they will have to serve another in jail.
However, five other accused were acquitted from the charges after they were found not guilty.
District Judge Court's public prosecutor (PP) Jashim Uddin confirmed the matter to Jago News.
The case statement said Omar Faruque, vice president of Chandraganj union Awami League, had a conflict with Jisan, allegedly head of a terror gang, for AL politics.
On December 6, 2014, Jisan and his men shot Faruque dead.
Later, accused Jisan was killed in a reported gunfight with the law enforcers.
The victim's wife Fatema Begum filed a case with Chandraganj Police Station in this connection.
