PK Halder jailed for 22 years in graft case

A Dhaka court has sentenced former managing director of NRB Global Bank Proshanta Kumar Halder alias PK Halder to 22 years in jail in a graft case. 

Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-10, passed the order on Sunday.

Thirteen others were also jailed for seven years in the case.

They are Lilabati Halder, Purnima Rani Halder, Uttam Kumar Mistry, Amitabh Adhikari, Pritish Kumar Halder, Rajib Som, Subrata Das, Ananga Mohan Roy, Swapan Kumar Mistry, Avantika Baral, Shankha Bepari, Sukumar Mridha and Anindita Mridha. 

Among them, Avantika Baral, Shankha Bepari, Sukumar Mridha and Anindita Mridha are in jail.

Halder, along with five others, were detained in Ashoknagar of the Indian state of West Bengal in the morning of May 14 last year.

On January 8, 2020, the ACC Deputy Director Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury filed a case against PK Halder for acquiring and smuggling illegal assets worth around Tk275 crore. 

Later, ACC Deputy Director Salahuddin submitted a charge sheet against 14 people in the case. The court framed charges against them on September 8 last year.
