Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by six wickets in their first match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday.
Afghanistan batted first, managing to reach a total of 156 before being bowled out. Despite the promising start, their batting line-up failed to cope with the Bangladeshi bowling attack and struggled to put up a challenging total against the masterful display of bowling.
The Tigers were 27-2 in reply, but a stand of 97 between Mehidy Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto helped them reach their target with 15.2 overs to spare.
It was an effortless victory that started Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign on a high note. The team looked in excellent form, demonstrating their strengths in both the batting and bowling departments.
Bangladesh will now take on world champions England at the same venue on Tuesday.
