Two get life for murder in Joypurhat

A court in Joypurhat has sentenced two people to life-term rigorous imprisonment for the murder of a man around 16 years ago.

The lifers are Fazle Rabbi, a resident of T&T Para, and Usman Gani Rubel of Nakurgasi in Panchbibi upazila.

Senior Sessions Judge Nur Islam delivered the verdict on Wednesday.

Apart from this, the court fined them Tk 10,000 each and in default, they will have to serve another year in jail.

The court also acquitted another accused named Sohel from the charges as he was not found guilty.

The court public prosecutor (PP) advocate Nripendranath Mondal said Mizanur Rahman, son of Helal Uddin, a resident of West Balighata village in the upazila, was found dead in a sugarcane field beside the Jamuna River on October 22.

Mizanur was throat-slitted over previous enmity, he said.

Later, his wife filed a case against three people with Panchbibi Police Station in this connection, the prosecutor added.
