Death of passerby in shooting: Accused put on 2-day remand

A court in Dhaka has granted police two days to question a man arrested over the death of a passerby in a shooting in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Sadi granted the remand against Maruf Billah Himel on Tuesday.

Earlier, police had produced him before the court and sought a 10-day remand while his lawyer prayed for bail.

On September 18 night, seven to eight young men opened fire on 'top terrorist' Mamun in the middle point of Tejgaon BG Press and Petrol Pump.

The bullets missed him and hit passerby Bhuban Chandra Shil when he was returning home at Arambag in the capital from his office, leaving him seriously injured.

Eight days after the incident, he succumbed to his injuries at Popular Hospital, Dhaka on Monday.

Bhuban's wife Ratna Rani Shil, however, filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station in this connection.
