Two cops, 3 others arrested for 'snatching Tk 20 lakh'

Five people, including two dismissed police members, have been arrested for allegedly snatching around Tk 20 lakh from a man entering a bank in Dhaka.

The arrestees are constables Mahbub and Asif, who were closed in Demra police line, and rest three are Sohel, hawker Ridoy and his associate Manzu.

The snatching took place at Paltan Branch of IFIC Bank around 2 pm on Thursday and police, later, apprehended the four in connection with the incident.

Azim Uddin, the employee of a businessman named Abdullah Al Mamun, went to the bank this afternoon to deposit Tk 20 lakh and at that time, two men in police uniform dragged him out of the bank and snatched the Tk 20 lakh, Hyatul Islam Khan, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Motijheel Division, told Jago News.

Being informed, police and detectives detained Ridoy, a hawker in front of the bank, and his associate Manzu after seeing CCTV footage, he said.

On information gleaned from the duo, police held Mahabub and Asif along Tk 10 lakh and on information given by them, the law enforcers detained Sohel along rest Tk 10 from Basabo, Hyatul added.

A case was, however, filed with Paltan Police Station in this connection, the police official added.
