New CJ to take oath on Sept 26

Justice Obaidul Haasan will take oath as the 24th chief justice of Bangladesh on September 26.

Supreme Court Registrar General Md Golam Rabbani told BSS that President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban in a brief ceremony at 11 am on that day.

President Mohammad Shahabuddin on September 12 appointed Appellate Division Judge Obaidul Hassan as the new chief justice as incumbent Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique is set to retire on September 25.

"Under the authority vested upon him under Article 95 (1) of the Constitution, the President has appointed Supreme Court's Appellate Division Judge Obaidul Hassan as the chief justice of Bangladesh," an official notification said on that day.

According to the Law Ministry notification, the appointment would come into effect from the day of his oath of office to be administered by the President.
