The government has decided to allow the import of six crore more eggs from India.
Md Haider Ali, Public Relations Officer of the Commerce Ministry, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Thursday.
Source said, the government has given approval to six businesses to import one crore eggs each. The imported eggs will be sold at Tk 12 per piece at the retail level -- the rate fixed by the government. The government will monitor if the market is stable after the import and take further decisions considering the market situation.
Earlier on September 18, the commerce ministry allowed four companies to import of four crore eggs from India to bring the prices down in the local market.
On September 14, the government fixed the price of eggs at Tk 12 per piece at the retail level amid price hike of the essential items.
