The government has allowed four companies to import of four crore eggs from India to bring the prices down in the local market.
The four companies are M/S Mim Enterprise, Prime Energy Importers, Tiger Trading and Arnob Trading Limited.
An official of Commerce Ministry, seeking anonymity, confirmed the matter to Jago News on Monday.
He said the government has given approval to four businesses to import one crore eggs each. The imported eggs will be sold at Tk 12 per piece at the retail level -- the rate fixed by the government.
He also said the government will monitor if the market is stable after the import and take further decisions considering the market situation.
Earlier on September 14, the government fixed the price of eggs at Tk 12 per piece at the retail level amid price hike of the essential item.
