Police have pressed charges against 16 people, including former lawmaker M A Awal, in a case over the killing of a youth in Dhaka's Pallabi in 2021.
Investigation officer and inspector of the Police Bureau of Investigation Monir Hossain submitted a supplementary chargesheet against them in Pallabi Police Station's General Registration Office in Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Court on Sunday.
The chargesheeted accused are M A Awal, a former lawmaker from Lakshmipu-2 constituency and chairman of Islami Democratic Party, Taher, Sumon Bepari, Murad, TT Sheikh alias Titu, Golam Kibria Khan, Ibrahim Sumon alias Bawa Sumon, Shafiqul Islam alias Shafique, Roky Talukder alias Roky, Nur Mohammad Hasan Motait, Iqbal Hossain alias Itbal Nur, Sharif, Tauriqul Islam alias Imon, Tuhin Mia, Harun Or Rashid alias Harun and Pratik Ahmed Sajib.
Next October 12 is fixed for the hearing of the case.
Earlier in February of 2022, Syed Iftekhar Ahmed, investigation officer, and inspector of the Police's Detective Branch (DB), submitted a chargesheet against 15 accused, including MA Awal, in court in the lawsuit.
But the victim's mother filed a petition of no confidence in court against the chargesheet on May 12 of the year and the court accepted the petition and asked PBI to probe the case again.
On May 16, 2021, the miscreants hacked Shahin Uddin, 33 to death in front of his six-year-old son inside a garage at Bloc- D in Pallabi in the capital over a land dispute.
On the following day, Shahin's mother Alkima Begum lodged a case with Pallabi Police Station in this connection.
Aklima alleged that her son was killed by the local terrorists over a land dispute with former lawmaker Awal, also managing director of Haveli Property Development Ltd in Alinagar residential area under Pallabi Section-12.
Shahin was murdered as he obstructed grabbing a land of 10 acres worth around Tk 5 crore, she alleged in the case statement.
