The Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka could see 90 per cent chance of showers in the evening as the weather forecast predict the day to stay cloudy throughout. The title clash which is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm could potentially see a delayed start as well as thunderstorms are expected between 1-2 pm.
Since the brief spell of rain on Thursday, Colombo hasn’t witnessed any rain for the past two days. Although there were predictions of heavy showers on Friday and Saturday evening, it just remained gloomy. And according to AccuWeather, thunderstorms and rain is predicted between 6 pm to 10 pm, meaning there could be brief stoppages in play.
The city has been witnessing rains mostly when the conditions in the morning are hot and the humidity is on the higher side. But on days where it has remained gloomy - which is the forecast for Sunday as well - there have been only brief spells of drizzle.
In case it rains on Sunday and the match can’t be completed, a reserve day is in place on Monday which will be activated. Last Sunday, India’s match against Pakistan was affected by rain and bringing the reserve day into effect.
Any stoppages during the match could also change the pitch conditions. At the Khettarama, the pitches have been on the slower side, making it challenging for batsmen. However, in case of a rain break, the moisture that settles under the covers, has led to the conditions becoming batting friendly.
India will be missing the services of Axar Patel, who has picked up a left quadriceps strain. Washington Sundar, who was at the NCA, joined the team on Saturday and could walk into the XI should the conditions be on the slower side.
