Krishi Market fire under control after 5.30 hours

A massive fire, which broke out at Mohammadpur Krishi Market in the capital Dhaka early Thursday, was brought under control after 5.30 hours.  

The fire broke out at 3:43am and was brought under control at 9:25am.

Md Anwarul Islam, Warehouse Inspector of Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell, confirmed the matter to Jago News. 

“There was no fire safety in the market,” said Lt Col Md Tajul Islam, Director (Operations and Maintenance) of Fire Service Directorate.  

However, the businessmen claimed that around five hundred shops of the market were gutted. 

They said the fire originated at Haque Bakery and soon engulfed the adjacent shops. 

Rashed Bin Khalid, Duty Officer of Fire Service Control Room, earlier said they were informed about fire in the Krishi Market around 3:43am. Eight firefighting units first rushed to the spot and started working to douse the fire. Later, nine other units also joined them. 

Apart from the fire service, army, navy and air force also took part in firefighting operation.
