A Dhaka court has framed charges against 15 people including National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital Registrar Abdullah Al Mamun in a case lodged over beating Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim to death.
Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam of Dhaka’s Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court framed the charge against the accused dismissing their exemption appeal.
The judge fixed November 9 for recording witness depositions in the case.
State Prosecutor Salauddin Hawlader confirmed the matter to Jago News.
The other accused are Director of Mind Aid Hospital Arif Mahmud, Pharmacist Tanvir Hasan, Officer Sakhawat Hossain, Sajjad Amin and Fatema Khatun, Coordinator of the hospital Redwan Sabbir, hospital staff Masud Khan, Jobaer Hossain, Tanif Mollah, Sajeeb Chowdhury, Asim Kumar Pal, Liton Ahmed, Saiful Islam and Abdullah Al-Amin.
The IO dropped the names of FIR-named accused Dr Nusrat from the charge-sheet as her involvement was not found during the investigation.
Name of another accused, Mind Aid Hospital Director Muhammad Niaz Morshed, was also dropped from the charge sheet as he died earlier.
According to the case statement, Senior ASP Anisul Karim went to Mind Aid Hospital on November 9, 2020, for taking treatment. At one point, the employees of the hospital started beating him mercilessly, which got recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital. Anisul later succumbed to his injuries.
Anisul’s father Freedom Fighter Md Faizuddin Ahammed on November 10, 2020, filed the case with Adabor Police Station against 15.
Inspector AKM Nasir Ullah of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigation officer of the case, submitted the supplementary charge sheet to Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on November 30 last year.
