Obaidul Hassan made acting Chief Justice

The government has made Supreme Court’s Appellate Division senior most judge Obaidul Hassan the acting Chief Justice of the country after the Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique went to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

The Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Monday. 

“According to Article 97 of the Constitution, the Appellate Division Judge Obaidul Hassan has been given the charge of Chief Justice from September 11-18 till Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique will take charge again,” the notification said. 

Hasan Foez, the 23rd chief justice of Bangladesh, is going to retire on September 25 after serving for nearly two years as the chief of Bangladesh’s judiciary.

He was sworn in as the Chief Justice on December 31, 2021.

He will turn 67 on September 25, which is the constitutional age limit for holding the office of chief justice.
