BTRC starts working to remove Tarique’s speeches

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has started working to remove BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s statements from social media.

BTRC’s lawyer Khandaker Reza-E-Raquib on Tuesday said they received the lawyer-certificate on Monday after the High Court directed the BTRC to remove all speeches recently made by Tarique Rahman from social media.

“A team of the BTRC has started working in this regard. It will be possible to remove all speeches of Tarique within some days. We are waiting for the certified copy of the HC order,” said the BTRC’s lawyer.

On Monday, the HC bench of Justice Md Khasruzzaman and Justice Md Khairul Alam ordered the BTRC to immediately remove Tarique Rahman’s statements from social media.

Advocate Nasrin Siddiqa Lina filed a petition with the concerned department of the HC in this regard on Sunday.

On 22 August, the HC ordered to include in the agenda of Monday’s hearing the issue of banning the broadcasting of Tarique’s speeches on media and social media.

The HC on August 13 had ordered to correct the addresses of Tarique Rahman and send its notice regarding the rule on those addresses.

Advocate Nasrin Siddiqa Lina on January 6, 2015, filed the writ, pleading for court’s instructions to take necessary measures not to publish, broadcast, screen and reproduce any statement of Tarique Rahman in any newspaper, electronic media, social media or any other electronic device or media, as he is a fugitive convict.

The High Court on January 7, 2015, issued the interim rule over banning the publication and broadcasting of Tarique Rahman’s speech in media.
